Culinary Arts Program Success Story: Natalie Alonzo
Natalie Alonzo (December 2011) started her career in the hospitality industry at a popular chain coffee establishment where she worked for nearly fourteen years. She always had a greater love of cooking and experienced that more deeply when she catered a wedding rehearsal dinner for her good friends. It was her wedding gift to them and she ended up cooking for about thirty-five people. “I had never done anything like that before,” Natalie says. “I had a blast and loved everyone else enjoying the food I had prepared for them.”
This was the catalyst for Natalie to pursue her dream of cooking, and in September 2011, Natalie attended Cook Street’s Professional 180° Program. It was the new beginning she dreamed of and launched her into her culinary career. “Cook Street made this all possible because I had the instinct, but not the skills to make my dreams come true,” Natalie says. “Cook Street also helped because this was a career change I made in my thirties, and I knew I didn’t have the kind of time to start in a kitchen like someone younger.”
Today Natalie is working as an accomplished personal chef. “Chef Natalie, your personal culinary curator.” She has thoughtfully prepared meals full time for several families with their unique needs in mind, and is also forecasted to take on new clients for March.
In addition to private in-home services, Natalie also caters intimate dinner parties and medium sized receptions with her unique boutique catering style. Among her notable accomplishments a fully catered reception for the Denver Film Society stands out.
Natalie offers a variety of services and caters to the individual needs of each client. More than just cooking, she also offers services such as menu planning and grocery shopping. Her catalog of skills includes many different cuisines but her admitted favorites are Italian and Mexican. Regardless of the needs of her clients, Natalie has the versatility to deliver. She is excited to share with you in your culinary adventures!
