In our Essentials I class you cover the basic foundations of cooking and cuisine in learning techniques that apply across the board. With principles borrowed from our professional culinary program we’ve assembled a course taught by professional chefs that is geared toward the home cook. We’ve taken the most fundamental aspects of our program and transformed them into a fun and approachable class that is a great step for any level of home cook. Taught from a classic French and Italian perspective on food and cooking you’ll gain the essentials skills needed to help you move beyond cooking from recipes and learn to be an inherently better cook. This class is a prerequisite for Classic Techniques: Essentials II.
What to Expect: Serious
It’s time to flex those foodie muscles in a hands-on class that perfects your technique.
Your class will be fun and in-depth, with hands-on learning and an intensive look at the subject matter at hand. Since series classes are designed for serious home cooks, we ask that you plan on attending all courses in your series as you will be covering topics in each session that are building blocks for the next session. Arrive on time and wear comfortable shoes: you’ll be on your feet much of the night. Please come prepared to enjoy a meal at the end of the class. We’ll serve a charcuterie platter with house-baked bread and a welcome cocktail at the start of class.
Alumni of Cook Street’s professional Culinary Arts Program and recreational class students who have completed Classic Techniques: Essentials I or II, are eligible to register for our annual European Culinary Tour.

Due to the nature of our kitchens and that cooking is an inherently dangerous activity, Cook Street asks that all participants be over the age of 18. This is for your own peace of mind as well as for the comfort of our other guests. The exception to this policy is any of our Kids Class series, which are all-ages. Wine, Beer, and Cocktail classes require that participants are over the age of 21.
Single-Evening Class If you are unable to attend a class, you must cancel at least five days in advance to receive a refund, retain a credit, or transfer to another class. Classic Techniques Series Classes In order to cancel or transfer from a classic techniques series course you must notify us at least five days prior to the start date of the first class in order to receive a full refund.
