Hands-On Training and Job Placement Support at Cook Street School
Launch Your Culinary Career with Hands-On Training and Job Placement Support at Cook Street School
Cook Street School of Culinary Arts is much more than a recreational cooking school for curious home cooks. It is the only cooking school in the Denver area with a professional program that provides education, training, and — most importantly — hands-on experience with a wide range of both classic techniques and modern applications.
But completing the Cook Street School of Culinary Arts Professional Program is not so much an end as a beginning. It’s what you do with the training that defines what your culinary practice will look like.
That of course looks different for each student. But for many, a job as a cook is the goal. Which is why in addition to the classroom teaching and training we provide, we also offer opportunities to gain useful in-kitchen experience and access to industry professionals looking to hire and other placement support.
Experience
Enrolling in and completing culinary school is a smart first step for any aspiring chef. But a good next step that can both boost career prospects and enhance the training gained is getting experience in a real restaurant.
Experience gives newly graduated students the chance to apply and solidify what they’ve learned in a fast-paced, professional environment in real time, under real pressure, with real diners. That kind of training is irreplaceable, as nothing accelerates knowledge than full immersion.
It’s also an effective way to test out different culinary career paths. Many students enter our culinary program with dreams of working the line, only to leave with aspirations in pastry. Working in real-life kitchens offer a way to get a taste (pun fully intended) of different applications and work environments to help discover which is the best fit.
And finally, experience helps new chefs get a job. Employers look for candidates with kitchen backgrounds, not to mention the networking and connections it brings with them. Because in the culinary world, experience is essential.
At Cook Street School of Culinary Arts, we have partnered with Access Internships Worldwide (AIW) to help graduating students find opportunities to gain real work experience, often in other countries where they can also explore those cuisines and cultures.
Placements are available in France, Italy, Spain, Japan, and others, which include introductory language and cultural immersion training to prepare.
Job Placement
Cook Street School of Culinary Arts also offers job placement assistance to graduates of the Professional Program. This includes a regularly updated job board on the Alumni Services section of our website, where employers in Denver and beyond post jobs opportunities appropriate for our students.
But it doesn’t end there. Our chef instructors are active members of the Denver area restaurant community, with connections, relationships, and close ties to chefs and establishments looking for entry level help that our students can fill. We’re often the first to hear about new opportunities, and of course are always willing to provide a contact, suggestion, or a recommendation.
At Cook Street School of Culinary Arts, we pride ourselves in providing hands-on training. Students in our professional program spend 80% of their time cooking vs classroom discussion. That philosophy extends beyond the certification, because we believe culinary school should do more than teach recipes and techniques. It should prepare students for the realities of the industry.
Experience and job placements are critical so setting graduates on a faster, smarter path for the careers they seek.
